Forestillingen MONUMENT 0.10: THE LIVING MONUMENT skaper en verden basert på farger og langsomme bevegelser. I en storslått scenografi blir publikum tatt med på en meditativ reise gjennom en rekke fargerike tablåer i et drømmeaktig univers hvor tiden nesten står stille. The Living Monument inviterer til å kollektivt senke farten og fordype seg i sanseinntrykkene og figurene som oppstår gjennom de endeløse landskapene på scenen.
Koreograf Eszter Salamon benytter et bredt spekter av formater og uttrykk når hun tar opp temaer i samtiden. The Living Monument er bygget på stilleben, langsomhet og kroppens tilstedeværelse. Forestillingen inngår i Salamons MONUMENT-serie som siden 2014 har utforsket hvordan monumenter kan ivareta minner, og bli frigjørende og inkluderende steder – det er grunntanken bak Salamons undersøkende samtidsdans.
The Living Monument begynner i et svart scenelandskap befolket av dvelende skikkelser ikledd glitrende materialer og knirkende skinn. Forestillingen beveger seg sakte inn i nye fargelandskap der tilskuerne kan gjenoppleve sine egne minner og skape deres egne bilder. Hvert tablå blir bundet sammen av Carmen Villains drivende lydspor som flyter over scenen og løfter opplevelsen.
I forestillingen er de sceniske elementene likestilte og avhengige av hverandre, og de utvikler seg som en installasjon av lyd, bevegelse og figurer. Scenelandskapene gir grobunn for sansing og undring, og langsomme overganger mellom farger, storslått scenografi og forseggjorte kostymer, gjør The Living Monument til en unik og sterk visuell opplevelse.

Eszter Salamon bor og arbeider mellom Berlin og Paris. For tiden holder hun på med sin kunstneriske doktograd ved Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, KHiO. Hun er prisvinner av Evens Art Prize 2019 og vinner av La vie bonne call for projects av National Center for Plastic Arts (FR) og Aware: Archive of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions, i 2020. Salamons produksjoner har blitt vist ved institusjoner og festivaler som MoMa i New York, Pompidousenteret i Paris, Julidans i Amsterdam, Tanzquarter i Wien, Festival d’Avignon og Tanz im August i Berlin.

MONUMENT 0.10: The Living Monument is heading out on international tour, and we’re opening the doors for an exclusive revisit to Eszter Salamon’s meditative universe. Wednesday 27 August at 14:00 will be your last chance to see this performance in Bergen. Open rehearsals are always free, but tickets must be reserved in advance due to limited capacity.

MONUMENT 0.10: THE LIVING MONUMENT creates a world based on colour and slowed movement. In a magnificent scenography the audience is taken on a meditative journey through vibrant tableaus in a dreamlike universe where time almost stands still. The Living Monument invites the audience to slow down and immerse themselves in the sensory impressions and figures that appear in the endless landscapes on the scene.
Choreographer Eszter Salamon uses a broad range of formats and expressions when she explores contemporary themes. The Living Monument is built on still life, slowness and the presence of the body. The production is a part of Salamon’s MONUMENT-series which since 2014 has explored how monuments can conserve our memories and create spaces of liberation and inclusivity – this is the fundamental idea behind Salamon’s inquisitive contemporary choreography.
The Living Monument begins in a black landscape inhabited by creatures dressed in glittering materials and creaking leather. The performance slowly moves into new colour schemes where the audience can relive their own visual memories and create their own images. Each tableau is bound together by Carmen Villain’s dynamic score which floats over the stage and boosts the experience.
In the performance, the theatrical elements are equal and interdependent, and it develops into an installation of sound, movement and figures. The landscapes on stage makes a space for sensing and wonder, and the slow transitions between colours, grand scenography and detailed costumes make for a strong and unique visual experience.
Eszter Salamon lives and works in Berlin and Paris. She is currently a PhD Research Fellow at Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She won the Evens Art Prize 2019 and La vie bonne call for projects by the National Center for Plastic Arts (FR) and Aware: Archive of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions in 2020. Salamon’s productions have been shown at institutions and festivals such as MoMa in New York, the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Julidans in Amsterdam, Tanzquarter in Vienna, Festival d’Avignon and Tanz im August in Berlin.
